Alternative Peer Groups

At ACTNW, our shining aspect of recovery is based around connection to others. Peer support will give our clients a safe space to be seen, heard, and LOVED.

The experience of substance abuse and mental health in teens have historically led to dangerous levels of isolation, and at ACTNW we prioritize the recovery that comes with connection. Not only encouraging the clients to connect with our peer support team, but with each other.

Here at our center in the heart of Portland, Oregon we will provide our clients with a variety of activities, video games, movies, ping pong, wellness practices and resources, self-care, and much more. On the schedule pertaining to the evolution of Self, outside of our clinical program we will have separate groups that are not medically driven where everyone can come in and open their hearts and minds with colorful discussions around their own journeys, life skills, and the experience of being a teen in recovery. These groups will help these teens promote the ownership of their own personal experiences in ways that will develop connections with their peers and the world around them.

Another aspect of our program that we are excited to announce are the weekly external functions on Fridays and Saturdays. These functions will provide the opportunity for our teen participants to experience how fun and fulfilling recovery can be, while also teaching how to balance and manage their recovery in social situations outside of the center. These functions will be fun and experiential activities such as rock climbing, going to eat at food trucks, going to arcades, and many other games and experiences for our teens to experience together. With these functions in place, it provides space for our participants to build community and just be teenagers. We are confident that with all the aspects of our program combined we will be able to provide our teens with the tools necessary in order to navigate being a healthy young adult in recovery.
