Thank you to our fiscal sponsor, the Alano Club of Portland!

For more than 60 years, the Alano Club of Portland has stood proudly as a beacon of healing, hope and solutions for Oregon's recovery community. The Alano Club also served as an incubator and fiscal sponsor for new, vital youth-oriented programs in Oregon, including Harmony Academy, Oregon's first recovery high school, and ACT NW, the first adolescent treatment and recovery center of its kind in the state.

As the only recovery support center of its kind in Oregon, we offer compassionate, trauma-informed supports and services—all free of charge—to over 10,000 people per month. Lives are being saved on a daily basis at the Club, and the generous hearts of caring members across our community help make it all possible.

Our programming has received national recognition and awards for innovation, and includes partnerships with support groups like Ben's Friends and social justice organizations like All Rise, which serve not just the recovery community, but the greater community in Oregon.

PCC Therapeutic Horticulture

Image

The therapeutic horticulture activity specialist program at PCC will be partnering with ACT NW to bring in nature and therapeutic gardening for teens in active recovery. Therapeutic horticulture is the participation in horticultural activities facilitated by a registered horticultural therapist or other horticultural therapy intern with training in the use of horticulture as a therapeutic modality to support participant program goals. Therapeutic horticulture is the process through which participants enhance their well-being through active or passive involvement in plant and plant-related activities. Activities provided will aid in sensory integration and hope based intervention through adventures with planting, nature crafts, wildcrafting, nature hikes, and community based partnerships dealing with actively building gardens.

Sarasvati Institute of Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy

Image

The Sarasvati Institute of Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy’s mission is to provide authentic, integrative, and inspiring education on the ancient systems of healthy living from The Vedic Texts: Ayurveda and Yoga. These sister sciences are designed to bring about the return to a natural state of balance, vitality, and total well-being of body, mind, and spirit, known as the medicine of the people because they are simple to execute with proper guidance and education utilizing everyday resources with a focus on diet and lifestyle.

Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy personalizes the yogic practice for each individual based on his or her mind-body type and current state of being. Ayurveda & Yoga are both from the ancient Vedic Texts; these sister sciences are most effective when practiced together. Ayurvedic wisdom says that "A person is as old as their digestive system"; therefore, we have a special emphasis on digestion and detoxification. We tell our students to think of themselves as their first client. This approach uses yoga asana (poses), focused breath-work (pranayama), diet, spices, meditation, as well as daily living routines to restore balance and harmony.

The Sarasvati Institute is not connected with any particular religion but embraces all religions, races, and creeds that support life and health for our planet and all those that live on it.

Cordelia Kraus,
LPC, CADC-I, certified CRAFT clinician

Image
Cordelia specializes in using CRAFT-based approaches to working with parents and family members who have a loved one who is actively struggling with, or in recovery from, addictive behaviors. Community reinforcement and family training (CRAFT) is a motivationally-oriented approach that is grounded in science, compassion, and pragmatism. Families who have been trained in CRAFT create helpful shifts in the family dynamics that have been shown to encourage and support recovery, support a reduction of substance use over time, and provide a greater foundation for health and wellbeing for the entire family.

Cordelia is a SMART Recovery facilitator (both standard and Family & Friends) and is currently offering a free weekly online CRAFT-based group through the Alano Club of Portland called "Invitation to Change for Family and Friends". She is a trainer for the Center for Motivation and Change in the CRAFT-based Invitation to Change model as part of their work with the Partnership to End Addiction's parent peer coaching program. Cordelia owns the SoberFamilies.com website, a free online resource for families to learn more about CRAFT and additionally encourages connection for CRAFT-based providers through an associated website HelpingFamiliesHelp.com. Cordelia offers a monthly CRAFT/Invitation to Change consultation group to providers in the area who are interested in connecting more with the work and has a private practice in Portland.

If you are interested in getting connected with further resources that use the CRAFT-based approach, whether as a family member or as a provider, Cordelia is passionate about raising awareness of this phenomenal and evidence-based alternative for families...and would love to hear from you!
